Gameplay

Far deeper than the first game. Uses all 6 face buttons.
Gimmicky use of two planes to fight on. Moving between planes is very slow so it's a gimmick to wears out its welcome almost immediately.
8 playable characters including Mai!
Extremely difficult game. I had a hard time pulling off special moves.

Level Design

Again very interesting level designs with a bunch of cool animations. A lot of detail is removed when compared to the SNES version. For example the bikes on the Korea level have been removed in place of motorcycles in the background.

Vastly improved audio.
Music isn't catchy but it's upbeat
Sound is far better than the weird generic beeps and bops of the original.
The sound quality is poor compared to the SNES version, however

Includes an unbelievably annoying weight system, limiting both what you can carry and what your character can use as a weapon. If you’re overloaded, you are unable to move. After buying a few things at the weapons shop I thought the game was broken. I had to Google it and read about this weight mechanic. So stupid. It makes the game nigh unplayable. Even with a minimal inventory of a knife, a helm, and two food rations I could barely walk.
