Formula One for Genesis

Image: MobyGames

Formula One

They got the sense of speed right anyway

Genre: racing - simulation

Publisher: Domark

Year: 1993

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

Not too shabby! Movement is very fast, including a noticable soft when you turn. The entire screen turns like you're tilting your head. Opponent cars cover half the road and you come up on them quickly so you crash very nearly every time you try to pass. Trees and poles are all over the place so you crash into those frequently as well. It's a shame because the engine is quite good.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Includes an arcade mode which allows you to recover aslfter crashing. Also an easy difficult so you have a prayer to complete the race and maybe even win.

Theme Score: 0

Theme Notes:

Generic no-ne racing game. My expectations were extremely low. Everything about the game is nondescript.

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Really good framerate. Sense of speed is fantastic. Cars scale well. Only knock is that there isn't much to look at. Also the artwork is very basic with minimal details. HUD covers 40%
