Forgotten Worlds

Floating Contra

Genre: shooter - horizontal

Publisher: Sega

Year: 1989

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Your sprite is huge. Difficult to avoid taking damage. Gimmick is an option which you can rotate around your body in with direction with the A or C buttons. Includes an auto fire option. Visit shops (think U.N. Squadron) to buy different weapons and replenish health. Not one hit kills thankfully.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Enemies come from all angles. Memorize the level and rotate your option is take out waves as they appear. Very short levels with free memorable features or set pieces.

Theme Score: 4

Theme Notes:

Contra in space

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

It's a 1989 game so don't expect much. Even so, the backgrounds are very boring. Nice sprite work but not visually impressive like Contra 3 or the Thunder Force games.

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

Straight up dorky music. Sound effects don't match the macho theme

Overall Score: 59

Review ID: 928
