High Seas Havoc
The most sincere form of flatteryGenre: action - platform
Publisher: Data East
Year: 1993
System: Genesis
Gameplay Score: 4
Gameplay Notes:
Carbon copy of Sonic. Seriously, this is the most blatant ripoff I've ever seen. If you're a Sonic fan then consider this Sonic 1.5 and enjoy. Two attacks - bop and jump kick. The jump kick is unreliable - there's a window in which you can do it so you can't do it immediately after jumping not can you execute it if you wait too long. Pretty annoying. Responsive controls. Somewhere between Sonic 1 and 2 in that regard, but with less momentum issues than either of those games.
Level Design Score: 4
Level Design Notes:
Some fun variety in levels. They okay just like Sonic - run to the right, bouncing on pads to launch upward and collecting gems. Good stuff.
Theme Score: 3
Theme Notes:
Yet another mascot. This one is some sort of anthropomorphic otter, maybe? And he's a pirate so it's kind of like a DKC game.
