Humans for Genesis

Humans

Lemmings meets Lost Vikings meets Tedium

Genre: puzzle - platform

Publisher: GameTek

Year: 1992

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 0

Gameplay Notes:

Shares similarities with Lost Vikings and Lemmings. You have a group of humans and can take direct control of one at a time. You can cycle between different jobs to give to them, such as making a human ladder or throwing out jumping with a spear. Their moves are incredibly restrictive and therein lies the problem - the game just isn't fun. It offers no joy - it's laborious to solve even the early puzzles.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

I mercifully only played a couple of puzzles. And yeah they took that long to complete. The solution was painfully obvious but the work required to make even small progress on each level made me want to tear out my hair. It felt like stripping paint. It's a ton of work and it's just not fun.

Theme Score: 1

Theme Notes:

The theme is far more lemmings than lost Vikings. Your nameless human characters are planks of wood. There's very little personality in that regard. And I'm not entirely sure what I'm trying to do. It's kind of weird. Between levels, the daily rock announces your progress. So I guess it has a bit of a Flintstones vibe. Not during the levels, just in that between level screen.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

Yep this is another Amiga port. The backgrounds aren't too bad but the spritzer teeny tiny and devoid of detail.

Audio Score: 0

Audio Notes:

There is no music. Period.

Overall Score: 15
