Irem Skins Game

Neo Turf Masters lite

Genre: sports - golf

Publisher: Irem

Year: 1992

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 4

Gameplay Notes:

Really novel, one screen and one button shooting scheme. I kind of like it. You can see your player asking with all info on the HUD as well as the layout of the hole on a single screen. You press up or down to pick the club, B to cycle through menus which let you change direction, stance, and most importantly the power. That's right lower isn't set by timing your press. There still is a timing gauge which determines the face on your shot but it's a single button press instead of two. Makes for fast gameplay since you don't have to manage a while bunch of sequential steps. Streamlined gameplay reminds me of Neo Turf Masters.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Again all the modes a hoity toity golf fan wants. Tournament plus skins, match, and stroke play. I don't know how to critique golf holes but they seem fine.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

It's golf, but has some personality. You pick one of four golfers who have various strengths and weaknesses. Definitely more interesting than something like Hole in One Golf.

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Lovely. Colorful graphics and nicely drawn artwork. Seeing both the golfer and the top down view of the course works really well. Everything is crisp and clear

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

Some nice arcade style sounds after a good hit or the completion of a hole.
