Jennifer Capriati Tennis
Not Super Tennis, but it will doGenre: sports - tennis
Publisher: Renovation Products
Year: 1992
System: Genesis
Gameplay Score: 3
Gameplay Notes:
The best Genesis tennis game. Looks, feels, and place like Super Tennis. Just with slightly worse physics. Movement is great. Hit detection is nice. Hard, soft, and lob buttons. Hard quite often send the ball out of bounds so you have to stay far away from net and carefully place your shot but when you run right it's next to impossible to hit left. It most often hits the direction you're running so your hot goes way off in that direction. Difficult but I think it would be ok with practice.
Level Design Score: 4
Level Design Notes:
Exhibition and circuits. Also a nice training mode. Even has a create a player feature. The game plays well so points for that part of the design. Guys and girls (obviously)
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
Typical japanese style sports title. Simple presentation like Smash Tennis or Super Tennis. Pick up and play. Let's you get right in to play a match.
Art Style Score: 4
Art Style Notes:
Chibi style sprites. So much better than the lanky faceless stuff from the western dev games. It's worth mentioning that the title art is downright scary. Jennifer looks like a rotting corpse. I can't believe she let the dev release that monstrosity.
Audio Score: 4
Audio Notes:
Upbeat menu music. Nice sounds.
