Gameplay

Nice fluid gameplay.
Responsive movement.
Simplified play calling like the Tecmo games. Just pick one of 4 plays.
Passing is interesting. You have to cycle through the your options like a quarterback would I suppose. It works well enough.
You have to be hit or hit really hard to take someone down which is nice. This results in a lot of big plays.

Only exhibition.
Can turn off penalties for an arcade mode but that's the only option.
Pick up and play only. No frills

Theme

No NFL or NFLPA license. Only 16 no name teams.
The quotes and suggestions from Joe Montana give the game a lot of personality.

Simple graphics but they move well so nothing to gripe about.

Includes an unbelievably annoying weight system, limiting both what you can carry and what your character can use as a weapon. If you’re overloaded, you are unable to move. After buying a few things at the weapons shop I thought the game was broken. I had to Google it and read about this weight mechanic. So stupid. It makes the game nigh unplayable. Even with a minimal inventory of a knife, a helm, and two food rations I could barely walk.
