Kid Klown in Crazy Chase

Trip.trip Runner

Genre: action - platform

Publisher: Kemko

Year: 1994

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

Very strange concept. Just an auto runner, but in a 3/4 isometric view with you running to bottom-right corner of screen. Incredibly difficult as it amounts to placing your character in the right spot horizontally and jumping at the right time. If you added music it would be a rhythm-based game. Looks great and a very novel concept, but controls horribly. Virtually impossible to avoid hitting obstacles every 5-10 seconds which results in a 3 second tripping animation. Dedicated buttons to speed up or slow down but speed up is no faster than normal walking. It's like "speed walkers" who add a bunch of crazy motion in their arms and legs but don't walk any faster for their efforts.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Not sure how to compare this game to any other platformer because it's so unique. There is a ton of stuff going on but because the controls are so awful it's not fun to deal with.

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

Very fun environment and tone. It almost feels like a clown-themed Dudley Do-right and Snidely Whiplash from Rocky & Bullwinkle.

Art Style Score: 4

Art Style Notes:
