La Russa Baseball 95 for Genesis

La Russa Baseball 95

Says 95 but looks like 85. Even games lie about their age.

Genre: sports - baseball

Publisher: Electronic Arts

Year: 1994

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

This is a weird title. It uses the behind the picture view like from the bases loaded games. The movement and physics are horrible. The ball and players are so poorly animated that they jump from place to place. It reminds me of the baseball game that Fred Savage is playing at the start of the Princess Bride. Extremely slow gameplay while pitching and hitting. Fielding is the exact opposite way too fast. Runners are so quick that I hit to the left side of the diamond pretty much always results in a single. Pitching is almost pointless. You can't place your pitch. You just choose the type and throw the ball and hope that they don't get a hit. Camera flies around when fielding. Completely disorienting.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Ok it has a season mode but who could stomach playing this poorly designed game for that long? It also has a difficulty level.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

MLBPA license but not Major League Baseball. This does the generic manager license thing by having Tony la russa give unwanted advice between every inning

Art Style Score: 1

Art Style Notes:

This is hideous. Not only is the performance terrible with bad animation all over the place, but the graphics look like an NES game at best.

Audio Score: 0

Audio Notes:

Some of the worst crowd noise I've ever heard in a sports game. Usually this is a fault in football games but here it's so terrible. It's a couple layers of sounds with the base layer being the explosion sound from missile command. And yeah this noise never stops.

Overall Score: 24
