Lost World: Jurassic Park for Genesis
Review #4319
Lost World: Jurassic Park
Third time's the charm... to a point
Gameplay
Ok now we're talking.
Overheard view similar to JP 1 for the SNES but with faster controls and more ammo.
Not a particularly good overhead action game but it plays great compared to the first two games.
You've got the franchise favorite tranquilizer gun but also a machine gun with limited ammo and a shotgun with unlimited rounds. Enemies run around crazily so they're hard to hit with anything but the machine gun which has auto aim.
The camera has a weird bouncy quality to it.
Driving the jeep is novel but controls horribly and the camera can't keep up so the novelty wear off quickly.
Level Design
Includes a map thankfully but it takes a long time to menu to it.
Levels are mostly empty space.
Objectives are sometimes weird and hard to accomplish, like trapping Stegosaurus in a cage. It's frustrating cuz they run far faster than you.
Missed opportunity since the game engine is mostly decent.
Theme
No idea who you are or what you're doing. Bizarre setting. The opening cutscene is awesome but it's all downhill from there.
Uses a wristwatch as the pause screen like GoldenEye
Art Style
Impressive for a 16 bit title. Some nice animation and sprite work, but there's just not much to look at. Only a handful of sprites and every level is the same jungle area.
Audio
Great music and sound. I played longer than I need to and I credit the music for most of that
