Gameplay

Good sense of speed.
Pretty mich same game as the original, but with way more options.
The key difference is the inclusion of a circuit style game instead of only time attack.
Lots of gimmicks which are sometimes annoying, like a track which has high winds that blow you to one side. The devs must've played F-Zero and wanted to include that feature but it feels weird here.
The only major problem is the fuel gauge and having to stop at the pits. Thematically this makes no sense and gameplay wise it's an obnoxious thing to have to worry about.
Oh and fail one time and it's game over.

Level Design

Tons of options including difficulty, length, obstacles, curves, hills and such. I didn't test these thoroughly but it feels a bit like a sandbox. I prefer well designed tracks but someone might like this.

Theme

Again a nameless game with little personality

Art Style

Carbon copy of the first game. Good sprites to go with pixelated and sparse backgrounds.

Audio

Music or sound effects. You can't have neither or both. Kind of weird. Trust me, choose the music. It's rocking, albeit with those classic Genesis beats and twangs. Good stuff.
You can choose which track plays before a race begins but you can't change mid-race.
