Mario is Missing

Luigi's man shun

Genre: educational - n/a

Publisher: Nintendo

Year: 1993

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

What the heck am I supposed to do?! Super strange mechanics which are never explained. For example, you have to find three "artifacts" in each level and return them to one of three locations, denoted by an information icon. However, for some reason these artifacts are trapped within Koopas that are wandering around. You have to bop them ad hope that they drop an artifact. To pick up the artifact you have to stand over it and jump. This took forever to figure out. You also have to do other things, like talk to a bunch of NPCs that are wandering around town but for the life of me I can't figure out how to interact with them. I can't beat a single level.

Level Design Score: 0

Level Design Notes:

All levels are structured the same. Just a grid with the same set of NPCs, artifacts, and other objectives. Once you've seen one level you've seen them all.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

It kind of looks like Mario. The concept isn't bad. Just the execution is flawed.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

It has the Mario/Luigi, Peach, and Koopa sprites, but the world they inhabit is devoid of any charm. Animation is atrocious. Enemies have minimal or no frames of animation. Everything looks flat and boring.

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

Again, it borrows from Mario but is incredibly dumbed down and not worthy of the Mario name.

Overall Score: 20
