Muhammad Ali Heavyweight Boxing
Float like a butterfly, stink like all the other boxing gamesGenre: fighting - boxing
Publisher: Virgin Interactive
Year: 1992
System: Genesis
Gameplay Score: 2
Gameplay Notes:
As shallow as most of these boxing titles, but it moves slowly enough that you can at least try blocking or moving around the ring. You have two punchs - a weak jab or a strong and slow punch. Just mash on the jab. Spend more time waiting for your stamina to recharge than actually fighting. Not much fun. Still, it's at least playable whihc is more than I can say about a few of these other boxing titles.

Art Style Notes:
Sprites look ok but they're tiny. Some decent animation of the sprites. The bottom and top of the screen are unused so it feels like the entire game is letterboxed into the middle third of the screen. There's a pseudo-3D effect that randomly appears as the boxers move laterally. Not sure what triggers it and it's purely cosmetic but it gives the game more depth. It's something interesting to look at anyway.
Audio Score: 3
Audio Notes:
Impressive voie samples, such as some catch phrases from Ali plus the ref counting and the crowd jeering for a downed fighter to "get up!" Music on the title screen is lively. Sound effects have a satisfying crunch. Good sound all around.
