NCAA Final Four Basketball

Tank controls are never ok

Genre: sports - basketball

Publisher: Mindscape

Year: 1995

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 0

Gameplay Notes:

Bizarre experience. It plays a bit like Resident Evil, with tank controls. Unless you're moving the d-pad only rotates your player. Passing is impossible. You always either throw it away or at an opponent. You have to hold down the pass button and use the d-pad to pick a target. Very strange. The game is unbelievably slow paced. It's like Prince of Persia (long animations) plus RE (tank controls) plus NBA Showdown. No indicator to show which player you're controlling. Uhh, wut?! In any case, it's completely unplayable.

Level Design Score: 1

Level Design Notes:

Exhibition and NCAA tournament modes. No arcade mode to make the game more playable.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

Not an NCAA basketball fan

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

Impressive animation, although this comes at the expense of gameplay. Sprites are a bit on the small size do while they animate well they're pretty ugly too

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

The crowd noise sounds like the wind sound from Final Fantasy 3.

Overall Score: 15
