NCAA Football for SNES

NCAA Football

Looks like college fans don't get a good SNES game

Genre: sports - football

Publisher: Mindscape

Year: 1994

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

Tecmo Bowl clone Receivers only catch half of passes even when wide open Cycle thru receivers but hard to get the right one Input lag is real Throw button works intermittently. Tap it a bunch. Also requires a long time to throw so you get sacked a ton Players have momentum issues so it's hard to change direction while running Weirdest kick meter of all time. Took me a long time to figure out. Press and hold B until you line up with Power meter. Release to choose the power level and then press B again on the Angle meter. Again there's trendois lag so hard to figure out the timing. Opponents instantly tackle you if you touch them so carefully get around them. Easier said than done Short games - the clock moves quickly

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Exhibition and tournament. Play selection is minimal but adequate

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

NCAA license, obviously Presentation is minimal Mindscape's logo plays for about 10 seconds like it's something to be proud about. Can't be skipped either. Teams seem to follow their MO like Army does nothing but run the option all game

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

Game runs smoothly. Can see a bit of the field but not enough. too much of the backfield is in view. Players have long animations which contributes to the overall difficulty and input lag

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

White noise Voice samples are nice Sound effects like kick and tackle are ok but the grunts of the players are hilariously bad. "Hoo. Hurah. Hurah. Hoo" plays repeatedly

Overall Score: 38

Review ID: 370
