Neutopia II

Legend of Zelda 1.5

Genre: adventure - overhead

Publisher: TTI

Year: 1992

System: TurboGrafx-16

Gameplay Score: 4

Gameplay Notes:

Plays like a true sequel to Neutopia rather than an evolution like Link to the Past is to LoZ. This title includes 8 directional movement but no other improvements. Still, the foundation was already good. I only wish the the sword attack was a slash instead of a stab. Oh well.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

The level design continues to be pedestrian. The overworld is particularly flawed, with dead ends and gated spots. The Zelda overworld has memorable landmarks and every screen has a purpose but here it all seems to be filler.

Theme Score: 4

Theme Notes:

Thankfully you can name your hero this time around. It's a typical "your dad is missing" setup but hey, it works.

Art Style Score: 4

Art Style Notes:

Vast improvement on the original but still fairly simple. The animation is good and everything has a bright and cheery look that I enjoy.

Audio Score: 4

Audio Notes:

Lovely music and sound effects.

Overall Score: 75
