Ogre Battle The March of the Black Queen

RTS Fire Emblem

Genre: strategy - turn-based tactics

Publisher: Enix

Year: 1994

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 4

Gameplay Notes:

Incredibly deep and satisfying gameplay. You can micromanage if you like. Requires a great deal of strategy and coordination among your units. Lots of QoL features like using orders while Paused and simple menuing. I wish it were easier to go exactly where you can l want to tho. Dropping a pin on the map is imprecise. A grid would've been much better.

Level Design Score: 4

Level Design Notes:

Again super deep. Eases you into things with a tutorial and a couple of easy levels. Tons of levels to play. They're very long unfortunately so you can't play in short sessions.

Theme Score: 4

Theme Notes:

The tarot cards are unique. The high adventure setting has a Fire Emblem feel to it for better or worse.

Art Style Score: 5

Art Style Notes:

Incredible animation in the battle sequence. The map view is simple but effective although I wish the view weren't so askew. A top down view would've been better. Tons of sprites with awesome character models and designs.

Audio Score: 5

Audio Notes:

Lovely soundtrack and fanfare during and after fights and when liberating cities and temples.

Overall Score: 84
