Ooze for Genesis

Ooze

Carrion meets Smash TV starring literal Boogerman

Genre: action - gun

Publisher: Sega

Year: 1995

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

I'm not really sure what to call this game but I think it's an overhead shooter in the same family as Smash TV, Total Carnage, and Zombies ate my Neighbors. The key gimmick is that you're a blob spread across the ground and you move like a fluid. Unfortunately, that means that your body takes up 10% or more of the entire screen. So your primary concern is avoiding damage and trying to aim your imprecise shots which can only be shot one at a time and only once every 5 seconds or so. Unsurprisingly, it's hard to avoid damage when your hitbox is so enormous. The act of moving around is novel but again doesn't work well as a twin stick shooter.

Level Design Score: 1

Level Design Notes:

Once again, this game has levels which accentuate the limitations of its gameplay.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

You're a scientist who discovered corruption in the company you work for so they turn you into a monsterous blob of goo. I guess you're trying to reassemble your DNA or something. So basically it's Out of this World meets Clayface. This halfway decent setup is destroyed by the ugly world that you playing in.

Audio Score: 0

Audio Notes:

Very, very, very, very easily the worst sounding game I've ever played. The music is your typical harsh crappy. Genesis sound in a rock song. But it's the sound effects that are just awful. You're attack. You're only means of attack uses the sound of hawking and spitting a loogie. And it's extremely loud. This is the most commonly used sound in the game. Mute immediately
