Sad truth: Macaulay Culkin headlines as many SNES games as Batman

Genre: action - platform

Publisher: Fox

Year: 1994

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Overworld let's you choose path First level announces "get ready for the torture chamber". If only all THQ games started with that warning. David Perry camera snaps to give you 80% draw distance but is disorienting. You can bop enemies but its inconsistent. You're more likely to take a hit so best to avoid all enemies. Really bad hit boxes for enemies and other elements like ropes to climb. Otherwise decent but floaty controls.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Labyrinth. But no collecting stuff which is nice.

Theme Score: 0

Theme Notes:

Macaulay Culkin headlines more SNES games (3) than Super Mario World. Something wrong with that.

Art Style Score: 4

Art Style Notes:

Really good animation and sprite work. The graphics are extremely dark except for your character and enemies who are strikingly colorful. Makes it easy to discern platforms and enemies.

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

Music is not bad but sound effects are frequent and awful. Landing a tall jump plays an explosion sound that doesn't fit the action at all. When you get a rubber ball projectile each press sounds like shooting a spit wad. Sound glitches abound, like shooting a ball up stairs at the right angle causes a continuous replay of the bounce sound. Overall pretty annoying stuff.

Overall Score: 50
