Pit-Fighter for Genesis

Image: MobyGames

Pit-Fighter

Still terrible, but far more playable than the SNES version

Genre: fighting - 1v1

Publisher: Tengen

Year: 1991

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

The controls are bad, but again, nowhere near as awful as the SNES version. The hit detection is significantly better but again, not remotely good. Punch and kick are the only moves so the gameplay is extremely shallow.

Level Design Score: 1

Level Design Notes:

Every fight takes place in the same arena with the worst looking crowd you've ever seen. It's just a repeating sequence of poorly drawn tiles that animate between two frames. However, the fights have a bit of variety. It's always a 1v1 fight but sometimes there are weapons, throwable items, or a gimmick like knocking down your opponent three times to win.

Theme Score: 1

Theme Notes:

I mean, it's just Fight Club. Or maybe that parking lot scene from Lionheart (remember Jean Claude Van Damme)?

Art Style Score: 1

Art Style Notes:

Easily the worst graphics I've seen in a 16 bit fighting game. Tiny sprites with only a couple of frames of animation. At least the performance is much better than SNES. Definitely the precursor to Mortal Kombat. Super ugly everything

Audio Score: 0

Audio Notes:

Some beep beep sounds stand in for music Horrible quality sound effects of punches and grunts

Overall Score: 18
