Power Piggs of the Dark Age

PIGS. IN. MEDIEVAL EUROOOOOOPPE

Genre: action - platform

Publisher: Titus

Year: 1995

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Jump, swing a sword with very short reach, or throw a useless projectile with limited ammo. Some excessive animation when turning, landing, and jumping but not horrible. You can attack while jumping. Most enemies take two hits but have no knock knockback so they come barreling thru you no matter what you do. Best strategy is to get closeso they fire away but duck so they can't hit you before you get two hits in. Or just avoid them. David Perry camera gives 70% draw distance

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Pointless collectathon on very vertical but largely pointless maze-like levels. You can generally just go tot he right. Some unique elements like enemies in the foreground shooting at you. Levels are extremely long. Annoyingly so

Theme Score: 0

Theme Notes:

Is this a licensed property? Was it a cartoon? If so, it must've been a Europe-only deal cuz this game reminds me of the Asterix games. And not in a good way. This world and everything in it is unappealing. Very ugly sprites.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

As ugly as the sprites are, the artwork itself ain't half bad. It has a THQ quality to it but at least has some variety.

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

Rather obnoxious 70s style music. Sounds like what I imagine played during the Starsky & Hutch TV show. Horrible gross out sound effects. Nothing but belch and fart noises.

Overall Score: 46

Review ID: 431
