Power Rangers Zeo: Battle Racers for SNES

Power Rangers Zeo: Battle Racers

The bad Power Rangers game

Genre: racing - vehicle combat

Publisher: Bandai

Year: 1996

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

Obvious Mario Kart clone - split screen, weapon to spin out enemies, jump button. The weapon is the same for everyone. It's a homing ball like a red shell. Controls are squirrelly - not much you can do to make a tight turn, even with a racer who has high grip. Once the tracks start adding 180 degree turns you're done for. Makes me appreciate how much control the hop and drift in SMK gives you. This game has no such control. Oh and the map shows your position but nothing for the other 3 racers.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Levels have various themes like a normal track, the grand canyon, or a rainbow road one. Modes include time attack, tournament, and 2P.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

Power Rangers. Uggh. The other PR games are actually pretty good but this one isn't worth it.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

Extremely pixelated mess. The models are ok but pretty dorky. Performance is good but I'm not a fan of much here. But props for nice menus I suppose

Audio Score: 4

Audio Notes:

Bopping tunes. Simple compositions but well made. They had me tapping my foot. The sound are mostly good but the squeal when drifting and ending a drift are quite annoying.

Overall Score: 39
