Rings of Power

Worse than Amazon's show?

Genre: rpg - western

Publisher: Electronic Arts

Year: 1992

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 0

Gameplay Notes:

Wow, Naughty Dog made this. Bad dog. No biscuit. Horrible control scheme. To have a conversation with someone you have to begin with C, then choose a topic with B, and then advance the conversation with A. Uh, ok Quite possibly the most laggy controls of all time. Wait a solid two or three seconds before the game responds. I am not exaggerating. I played for almost an hour and never engaged in combat, advanced the story, or accomplished anything. An utter waste of time.

Level Design Score: 0

Level Design Notes:

No idea what to do or where to go. The old adage that you should talk to everyone to figure out what to do next doesn't apply here because everyone says the exact same things. It's maddening.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

I got a Willow vibe from the game since your goal is to become a great sorcerer. At least I think that's what's going on. The feel is must lighter than the typical D&D stuff so I really wanted to like this game.

Art Style Score: 0

Art Style Notes:

Hahahahahaha Two frames per second. No animation of movement. You just teleport between tiles. Dorky looking sprites. Looks and scrolls like Populous. The only thing I can nice about it is there a nice use of color.

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

Rocking music in the tavern. Love it. Too bad everything else is the standard harpsichord nonsense typical in these sword and sorcery titles.

Overall Score: 4
