Rise of the Robots
Real Bad SteelGenre: fighting - 1v1
Publisher: Acclaim
Year: 1995
System: SNES
Gameplay Score: 0
Gameplay Notes:
Battles are long. Even on Easy and the longest time allowed (60 secs) most battles end when the time runs out No special moves that I could find Enemy attack have ridiculously long reach and most can't be blocked Only one robot to fight as. Dragon is the only other fighting game I can think of which did this. Uses the standard 6 button SF2 controls but the weaker attacks don't seem much faster than the strong ones so why bother with anything else? Basically just amounts to using your kick over and over since it has long reach. No throws either btw
Level Design Score: 1
Level Design Notes:
Just a bunch of metallic, vaguely futuristic warehouses with nothing to look at. Only the Story and Versus modes
Theme Score: 2
Theme Notes:
Mechs fighting has potential. If only you could use more than one robot!
Art Style Score: 1
Art Style Notes:
Almost no frames of animation Some of the ugliest prerendered artwork in a video game Colors are so washed out Whoever colorized the game really really likes purple Character models themselves are nice
Audio Score: 3
Audio Notes:
Easily the best aspect of the game. Some of the music is reminiscent of Perfect Dark. All of it is upbeat which I like in a fighting game Sounds are almost non-existent.
