Gameplay

They added a rival who rubberbands to you. Kinda weird and unnecessary.
Controls are far laggier than 1 or 2. Punching or kicking happen long after you press the button.
I much prefer the first two.

Art Style

Huge step backward the prerendered sprites are so ugly. Gimme my hand drawn sprites back!
Even the performance seems to have gone down. This release in 1995, three years after RR2! You couldn't improve the performance?!

Horrible music tarnishes what was one of the best qualities of the previous games. Yuck

Includes an unbelievably annoying weight system, limiting both what you can carry and what your character can use as a weapon. If you’re overloaded, you are unable to move. After buying a few things at the weapons shop I thought the game was broken. I had to Google it and read about this weight mechanic. So stupid. It makes the game nigh unplayable. Even with a minimal inventory of a knife, a helm, and two food rations I could barely walk.
