Rolling Thunder 3 for Genesis

Rolling Thunder 3

Genre: action - gun

Publisher: Namco

Year: 1993

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 4

Gameplay Notes:

More of the same. Enemies are a bit more aggro so the difficulty is a bit higher. No time limit. One special weapon per level, such as a spread shot, a laser, or an automatic rifle. I felt like I ran out of ammo a lot.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Less interesting levels. The two-plane Shinobi-style design is still present but the levels themselves don't have as many interesting elements as the previous game. The motorcycle level is novel but overly simple and ultimately boring as a result.

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

Can't play as the female spy. This time you're a Dirty Harry wannabe fighting robots controlled by a Piccolo wannbe in Las Vegas. Yeah it's weird. The story is told via mission briefings between levels.

Art Style Score: 4

Art Style Notes:

Definite improvement over the previous game. Improved animation and lots of color. Looks pretty good, but with minimal effects.

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

Music isn't nearly as catchy as RT2. Major step down. Sound effects are ok

Overall Score: 72

Review ID: 1210
