Shadow of the Beast
RubbishGenre: action - punch n kick
Publisher: Electronic Arts

System: Genesis
Gameplay Score: 0
Gameplay Notes:
Impossible. Enemies run at and right through you. Atrocious hit detection. Unless you time your hot perfectly your taking damage. And even then you often have multiple enemies come at once and there's no way to stop them. Punch is your only attack. Long attack animation and even longer turn around animation makes it impractical to even attempt fighting enemies who spawn behind you. Checks all the Western boxes and then some. This game is unplayable. Complete rubbish

Level Design Notes:
Go to the right. Nothing resembling platforms or any other story of obstacle or feature. Feels almost like a runner. Uses an infinite lives cheat to get to a castle but then ran into a dragon blocking the oath which cannot be damaged. So I'm stuck. Wow this is amazing.
Theme Score: 0
Theme Notes:
You're a monster killing other monsters. No idea why. What's my objective? Cutscenes appear now and then and give you a D&D style description of your surroundings. What the heck? And they tell you stupid stuff like "a key would've been helpful" after going down a ladder and being unable to get off the ladder at the bottom. What??
Art Style Score: 3
Art Style Notes:
Ok time for some praise. First off the sprites are ugly as sin with almost no animation. It looks like a slidedeck. But the backgrounds? Wow are they amazing! I've never seen such an incredible depth due to the clever use of many layers of parallax scrolling in boy the fore and background. It's a sight to behold. But everything else is ugly.

For a couple of minutes I was enjoying the songs. Then I realized that they loop after 10 seconds and they annoying the heck out of me. Pass
