Shadowrun for SNES

Shadowrun

A face only a certain kind of RPG player would love

Genre: adventure - overhead

Publisher: Data East

Year: 1993

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

Point and click games can work on a console (case in point: Maniac Mansion), but not when the sprites and cursor are microscopic. It's an absolute chore to move the cursor where you need it to go. Also, the B, L, and R buttons do different things (interact, inspect, and pick up) so you often have to open the cursor and select items three times in a row. Uggh You can't move while doing anything (like shooting).

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

I get that they wanted the world to feel large and alive, but this makes for a horribly frustrating experience. 95% of the doors and buildings go nowhere. There are obtuse clues that direct you, kind of, but by and large you've got no idea what to do next.

Theme Score: 5

Theme Notes:

Very cool if derivative sci-fi setting. Obvious Blade Runner rip-off, but also has some Matrix in it.

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Looks ok but man is everything tiny.

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

Horrible music that repeats far too often. Play on mute.

Overall Score: 35
