Shanghai II: Dragon's Eye
How to not win at a puzzle gameGenre: tabletop - board game
Publisher: Activision
Year: 1992
System: SNES
Gameplay Score: 1
Gameplay Notes:
Move a cursor, pick matching tiles to remove them, but only if one of the sides of the tiles is free. Uggh, Mahjong is the dumbest game ever. Imagine playing a board game where 90+% of the time you cannot win. Unable to select only winnable boards, like in the Genesis version. This makes the game not worth playing imo. There's something therapeutic about clearing a board. It's aggravating most of the time but there's satisfaction in finishing something.
Level Design Score: 2
Level Design Notes:
Lots of tiles and layouts. None good but whatever
Theme Score: 0
Theme Notes:
Boring Chinese game. No personality. Just a static board
Art Style Score: 1
Art Style Notes:
Incredibly pixelated which makes it hard to differentiate between some tiles. More colorful than the Genesis version.
Audio Score: 0
Audio Notes:
Virtually no sound. Music is super repetitive. Best to turn it off at which point the game is silent.
Overall Score: 22
