Simpsons: Virtual Bart for SNES

Image: MobyGames

Simpsons: Virtual Bart

The Matrix starring Bart Simpson

Genre: action - platform

Publisher: Acclaim

Year: 1994

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

Includes a "Practice Mode" where you can play any of the 6 mini games. Controls are pretty bad. This is typical licensed crap. The game itself is just 6 very tiny, short, and shallow mini games. Crippling slowdown

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

There's some variety here, but it's ultimately just really short platformer levels. Dinosaur level is typical western dev licensed game. Terrible controls, horrible hit detection, swarming enemies, etc. Same with the Pig level but 10x worse because your character is virtually immobile and has no offensive capability other than bopping while doing a pogo jump like from Duck Tales. I kid you not. Baby level is an early attempt at DK King of Swing but with horrible controls that are so slippery that it's difficult to figure out the height you'll get when jumping during a swing and what direction you'll go when you do. Tomato throwing game is ok but pointless. Gets old after about 2 throws. Waterslide level is visually impressive but extremely shallow. Like the mid-level bonus stage on Earthbound Jim, but with 1/5 the framerate and even less to do. Mad Max level is a really cutdown Road Rash clone that is absolutely impossible to complete. Utter trash

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

I like the idea. Bart in a bunch of weird virtual settings

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Like Bart's Nightmare this game looks nice in screenshots but not while in motion.
