Smartball

Back to basics

Genre: action - platform

Publisher: Sony

Year: 1992

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

You're a blob that slides around on the floor. The gimmick is that you can stick to the walls or ceiling by holding the run button. Jump, run, and throw buttons (limited ammo). Attack by pressing down to squish your body, slightly extending it to the sides, or holding up to extend upward. Easy to read hud Mario style gameplay Very simple and easy yo understand mechanics Rather slow gameplay There are so many awful platformers on the SNES that playing one that's marginally enjoyable is a real treat, even if there's nothing particularly special about it.

Level Design Score: 4

Level Design Notes:

The levels are varied and take full advantage of Jerry's one and only skill. They also have personality between them and don't all feel same-y.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

You're a blob. Get off the couch dude

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Extremely simple NES++ graphics. But a bright, cheerful world.

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

Some nice tunes, although they are extremely repetitive. Level 2's foreboding song is annoying but the rest are cheerful and fit the mood of the game perfectly.

Overall Score: 64
