Space Football

The other Air Hockey simulator

Genre: sports - other

Publisher: Triffix

Year: 1992

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

What is this game? The objective is to chase down, grab, and deliver the "ball" to one of two goals which are just a zone within the arena. You slide all over the place so tracking down the ball is insanely difficult. The ball can only be carried for about 3 seconds so you have to grab it when it's near the goal in order from score. The enemy AI is stupid and never scores. You can shoot a projectile but it doesn't seem to do anything. It doesn't hurt your opponent anyway. I'm not sure why it exists. And yeah, that's all there is to this game. 5 minutes of gameplay and you'll never want or need to play it again.

Level Design Score: 1

Level Design Notes:

There are a few arenas but they're all the same.

Theme Score: 0

Theme Notes:

Football. In space. Actually it's more like playing Air Hockey if you were inside the paddle. It's a weird concept.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

Mode 7 taken to its logical, awful conclusion. Actually I'm being too harsh - the playing field looks awful but there's a starry night background that looks ok and a HUD for your cockpit. The HUD mostly just says PLAYER 1 and PLAYER 2 but at least it's small. The level end artwork is HILARIOUS. I swear it's a bronze statue of your human avatar sitting on a toilet doing a pump first in the air. So funny!

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

The music is positively goofy but it throws on you. I was laughing at it anyway. The sounds are loud and sometimes obnoxious but again they're so kitschy that they're fun to hear.
