Speedy Gonzales: Los Gatos Bandidos
The best Looney Tunes themed Sonic cloneGenre: action - platform
Publisher: Sunsoft
Year: 1995
System: SNES
Gameplay Score: 4
Gameplay Notes:
Another Looney Tunes themed Sonic clone Good camera gives Speedy 80% draw distance making it possible to navigate the levels without much trouble. Good workout for your reflexes but not unfair like so many Sonic clones. You also have a kick but no idea what it's used for. Run and run and collect/rescue mouses from their cages. Then find the exit. Fairly tight controls. Has some floatiness, but no worse than something like SMB
Level Design Score: 4
Level Design Notes:
Levels are mostly devoid of enemies, instead including tons of environmental elements to contend with. Well designed to let you run and run.
Theme Score: 3
Theme Notes:
Of the Looney Tunes gang, Speedy is probably the best candidate to star in a video game.
Art Style Score: 4
Art Style Notes:
Looks fantastic. Sprites are mercifully smaller than the other WB games, making the game much more playable in the process.
Audio Score: 1
Audio Notes:
What happened to Sunsoft's audio department after the 8 bit era? This music is an assault on the ears. Ok sound effects and voice samples can't make up for this squishy, off-key mess of a soundtrack.
