Steel Talons for SNES

Steel Talons

Makes Star Fox looks like it's running at 120 FPS

Genre: simulation - flight

Publisher: Left Field

Year: 1993

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

Major momentum issues. Probably the worst I've ever seen. It's manageable once you figure out how to turn as minimally as possible. Not fun, but doable. Framerate is laughable. Race Drivin' bad. Uses every face button. Feels more like a simulation than any other flight sim on the system. Buttons for up, down, gun, missile, bank L or R like F-Zero. Has a good mini map and a long draw distance. This is easily the best thing about the game.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Missions are an open map with enemies to destroy. Time limit although it doesn't tell you that until after you've completed the mission and it has congratulated you. 13 missions are visible but not selectable from the get go.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

No setting. Just get in a chopper and shoot at stuff. Mission briefings just tell you the conditions (clear, cloudy), the terrain (desert, woodland, mountains), and the ceiling (390 for all but one which is 190) and then they say destroy everything. No plot to speak of.

Art Style Score: 0

Art Style Notes:

Framerate is laughable. Race Drivin' bad. Nice try I guess.

Audio Score: 0

Audio Notes:

Unimaginably bad music. Sounds like a cat walking across a church organ.

Overall Score: 22
