Super Chase HQ
Dirty Harry plays bumper carsGenre: racing - vehicle combat
Publisher: Taito
Year: 1993
System: SNES
Gameplay Score: 2
Gameplay Notes:
Very simple game where you just drive fast to catch up to a badguy and then bump his car until it's busted. There's a time limit and during the chasedown segment there are obstacles to slow you down like other cars or enemies. One you get to the boss you just ram into him. That's the extent of the gameplay. Controls are simple and responsive. You just drive forward, weaving around other cars. It's repetitive and boring after long. Obstacles appear suddenly so you have to react quickly but it's quite ready on the early levels. Very very very shallow gameplay. This was worth a quarter in the arcades but not something I'd play much at home.
Level Design Score: 1
Level Design Notes:
If you've seen one you've seen them all.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
Such a gritty story! Gangs and murders and corrupt politicians galore. How did this get past Nintendo's censors?
Art Style Score: 3
Art Style Notes:
I love the perspective with your eyes in the rear view mirror. Everything moved quickly with no slowdown. However the graphics are decidedly low res. They're average at best
Audio Score: 4
Audio Notes:
Great sound design. The arcade style music in the menus and cutscenes really sets the mood and the crunch and your squeels are satisfying.
