Super Punch Out for SNES
Review #584
Super Punch Out
Pummeling racial stereotypes since 1994
Gameplay
Herein lies the difference between this and all other boxing games - the name of the game is to recognize and react to visual and auditory patterns. In this way it is more of a puzzle than an action game, per se. Maybe it's a puzzle-action genre? As a result, it feels more like a video game than a simulator, which I appreciate.
Still, while I like this game more than other boxing games, I still don't enjoy it like I did the original. The reason is that attacks are hard to read. There's so much animation that it's hard to recognize the patterns with enough time to react.
Level Design
Each fight is distinct, in stark contrast to the samey fights in all other boxing games.
Theme
Presentation is through the roof. Maybe a bit too obvious though. The characters are silly but lack anything resembling subtlety.
Art Style
Amazing graphics. The animation alone is worth playing this game.
Audio
I don't remember the sound at all. Must've been ok
