Super Putty for SNES

Super Putty

Yet another Amiga port

Genre: action - platform

Publisher: US Gold

Year: 1993

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

I played this right after playing Mario All-Stars, SMW, and Yoshi's Island. So, I'm playing it immediately after basking in the light of the best platformers of all time. It's no surprise that this game doesn't quite measure up. Plays kind of like a single screen arcade game..objective is to reach the exit but maybe something has to be collected - I can't tell what makes the exit become active. Constant attacks from off screen enemies. Bad hud Gameplay is baffling - some enemies can be killed while others give you a "magic" when eaten after which you can't eat some of those enemies that you could previously. Other enemies can't be killed at all. And you kill them either by punching using R or L or by pressing down to envelop them into your flattened body. Super weird.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Only saw a couple of screens before moving on. Nothing worth mentioning

Theme Score: 1

Theme Notes:

You're a ball of putty being tormented by an evil cat (is that redundant)?

Art Style Score: 1

Art Style Notes:

Amiga graphics with the tiniest sprites I can think of on the SNES. Everything is ugly. Enemies and your character all have googly eyes. Reminds me of the classic "eyes are the windows to the face" SNL skit by the inimitable Christopher Walken.

Audio Score: 0

Audio Notes:

Music is bad, like a 1960's beach song sped up to double time. Bearable but not enjoyable. The sound effects, on the other hand, are positively awful. Jumping sound like the krinkle of a disposable baby diaper, taking damage plays an "ow" sound bite, and someone somewhere whistles randomly. Play it on mute.

Overall Score: 23
