Task Force Harrier EX

No, it won't make you grow hair

Gameplay

Uses the entire window. Most of these vertical shooters have a side bar which limits the field of vision.
Options can be cycled between four different configurations. Putting them in front increases defense but slows you down while putting them behind increases speed. Pretty cool.
No weapon powerups.
Two planes (pun intended) to fire upon. You fire a machine gun forward and bombs downward to the ground. Some enemies can only be attacked with the bomb. It's novel and implemented much better than on Xevious.

Level Design

Switches between two kinds of levels - high and low. Gameplay doesn't change but in high you can use options while you can't in low. In the low levels there are only ground-based enemies while high levels have a mix of planes and tanks.
No memorable set pieces. Just fly upward very slowly.

Theme

Lovely anime-style cutscenes with an Air Force uniformed babe.
The narrative of killing Commies is straight out of the Cold War.

Art Style

It's ok. Nothing flashy like MUSHA. It's closer to Raiden Trad.

Audio

Terrific, clear voice samples at the start and end of each level.
Ok music, but using very basic sounds. It's also mono.
Ok sound effects. At least the shooting sound isn't annoying.
