Target Earth for Genesis

Target Earth

Genre: action - gun

Publisher: DreamWorks

Year: 1990

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Mech combat from the Cybernator series. Rotating your weapon is slow and you can't quite get the right angle to shoot up hills. Infinitely spawning enemies. Enemies have interesting attack patterns which react to your movements. Select three weapons before each mission for your build-out. Some weapons run out of ammo while others reload endlessly. Some are seemingly useless. Extremely high difficulty Movement is floaty and not very responsive.

Level Design Score: 4

Level Design Notes:

Levels follow a narrative and flow from one to the next without a break. In level 1 your base is attacked. Level 2 is an escape from the destroyed base. Level 3 has you dropping out of the escape ship to defend it from attack while it enters Earth's atmosphere. Very cool, although levels are very simple - just shoot the bad guys. Not much within them. No platforming.

Theme Score: 5

Theme Notes:

Love the narrative driven story.

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Very simple looking graphics. Tiny sprites and minimal effects. A far cry from the graphics in Cybernator or Metal Warriors.

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

Good but unremarkable. Sounds are better than the music but still nothing to write home about.

Overall Score: 67

Review ID: 1303
