Tecmo Super NBA Basketball for Genesis

Tecmo Super NBA Basketball

Same great gameplay but awful sound

Genre: sports - basketball

Publisher: Tecmo

Year: 1993

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 4

Gameplay Notes:

Movement isn't as realistic as NBA Live but it feels more like a video game. It's kind of the Tecmo Super Bowl of basketball games. That is, it is to NBA Live what TSB is to Madden. Players move in predictable patterns and you basically just have to pass the ball around until you find an open man and then drive in to dunk it or shoot it from where you are. Controls are mostly responsive and a bit easier to work with since players come to a full stop when they shoot. Movement isn't floaty like in every other basketball game.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Lots of modes and options.

Theme Score: 4

Theme Notes:

Full NBA and NBAPA licenses. A nice, arcadey presentation that isn't distracting like most of the EA games.

Art Style Score: 4

Art Style Notes:

Clear spritework. Looks and animates well.

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

Massive drop in quality for the sounds. I loved the SNES sound but this sounds bad played with the Genesis horns.

Overall Score: 71
