Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters for Genesis

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters

I would've preferred a Turtles in Time sequel

Genre: fighting - 1v1

Publisher: Konami

Year: 1993

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Shallow gameplay. Only two attack buttons plus three special moves which are basically the same for every character - a fireball, lunge, and uppercut. Still, simple doesn't mean bad. Take no damage while blocking so you or enemy can just sit back and wait the clock out if you want to. Pretty lame. Responsive controls Only 4 fighters to choose from in story mode. Guess which ones? Insanely difficult, even on easy.

Level Design Score: 4

Level Design Notes:

Some nice arenas with a bit of animation and even some destructible elements The googly eyed dinosaur in Triceraton's stage is disconcerting, however

Theme Score: 4

Theme Notes:

Ninja Turtles are awesome. You can fight as April!

Art Style Score: 4

Art Style Notes:

Large sprites Good animation Everything is well drawn The Turtles look weird. I'm just so used to the original cartoon designs and the original comic book designs that anything else looks strange but these are just unappealing

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

Music ranges from good to awful. Sounds are decent with satisfying crunches when a hit lands, but they're more metallic and garbled than the SNES version.

Overall Score: 66

Review ID: 1318
