Test Drive II: The Duel for Genesis
Review #4599
Test Drive II: The Duel
Play the SNES version instead
Gameplay
Simple controls - gas, brake, shift up or down, and steer
Horrible as a driving simulator. Controls are unbearablely floaty. Not nearly as tight as the SNES version.
Has zero charm or playability as the super NES version.
Level Design
Levels are short and bizarre. One minute you're driving along the beach and after a quick turn you're in the mountains driving along a sheer cliff up and down to your left and right. It's a bit jarring.
Race another car or just the clock
Four different difficulty levels
Theme
Drive a car. A Ferrari, Porsche, or Lamborghini to be exact. That's awesome but everything about the presentation here is lame. The music doesnt stop between levels. It feels so cheaply made.
Art Style
Oh wow. Massive step down from the SNES version. Looks like an early PC game or maybe even like NES or master system quality. The interior of the car has almost no detail and poor animation. The colors are all bad too. It's a bunch of shades of blue and gray.
Truly awful graphics.
Audio
The music sounds horrible here. It's tinny and has an echo or something. There are three in-game songs to choose from. They all suck. And the awesome title screen from the SNES game is present but is a shadow of itself.
Sound effects are awful. I swear they're pulled from Atari 2600 and make the game sound archaic.
