Vectorman 2

Ball-E Too much talking

Genre: action - gun

Publisher: Sega

Year: 1996

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Same gameplay. Maybe even a tad worse than the first game. Tons of flying enemies and ceiling huggers with a tiny, hard to shoot hitbox. Controls are still floaty and laggy.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Enormous tunnels and platforms that go on forever. Again it just feels like the same elements recycled to lengthen each level rather than new and novel elements to make it interesting. Blind jumps galore. Enemies placed for cheap hits. Platforming is a chore due to slippery controls.

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

Has a stronger identity somehow. Vectorman feels like more of a character and not just a stack of balls.

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Quite impressive sprite work. The style is slightly improved but the game is incredibly dark. Frequent flashing lights out a real strain on your eyes as well.

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

Again the sounds are way too loud. This time they're annoyingly frequent. The human voice samples are replaced with a robotic voice which is thematically appropriate but annoying. Everything makes a sound. The game feels crowded, like trying to have a conversation at a loud party.

Overall Score: 55
