Wolfenstein 3D for SNES

Wolfenstein 3D

Censored beyond belief

Genre: shooter - fps

Publisher: Imagineer

Year: 1993

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Fast movement and strafing. Phew Enemies are incredibly stupid. Just open a door, peak your head in, retreat and close the door, then wait for them to open it and get shot at. Easy peasy. A to interact and B to shoot. Simple controls.

Level Design Score: 4

Level Design Notes:

Decent design with maps that are easy to track in your head. Landmarks help with navigation. Full map builds out Metroid-style as you explore. Thank you!

Theme Score: 4

Theme Notes:

Kill Nazis Massive nostalgia factor, however Nintendo censors removed a ton of stuff you remember from the DOS version. The German Shepherds are now mutant rats, the dialogue is generic English yells instead of German, and all Nazi symbols like the swastikas and Hitler pictures are gone. Also there's no blood. So it's a little bit nerfed.

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Let's be honest, this is a pixelated mess. Still, it runs smoothly and looks about as good as it could. Navigating a 3D space on the SNES is a trip. I prefer the colorful world of Wolfenstein vs the dark world of Doom.

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

Music has nice composition but horrible sounds. They only have a single channel and loop quickly. Pretty sad tbh

Overall Score: 66
