X-Kaliber 2097 for SNES
Review #709
X-Kaliber 2097
Let's call it a hidden gem
Gameplay
Responsive controls and jump with good height
Plays a little like a weapons based 1v1 fighter with a dedicated guard button.
Includes 1v1 and PvP fighting modes to further cement the comparison.
The guard makes for long drawn out boss fights where you corner the boss and swing continuously in hopes he stops blocking.
Water drops from the ceiling hurt you- even in 1994 western devs were required by law to include this bs.
Level Design
I was going to compliment it after level 1 but level 2 was a boring slog with the same tropes of all western dev games - intro an enemy/obstacle and then repeat it 7 times in a row.
Pretty boring levels unfortunately
Theme
Cool cutscenes
Art Style
Attractive comic book style artwork
Definitely western style but good use of color
Minimal animation
Audio
Tracks match the game's style
Very Mortal Kombat-esque music
