Yoshi's Safari

The other reason to own a Super Scope

Genre: shooter - gallery

Publisher: Nintendo

Year: 1993

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

It's a corridor shooter where you've got no control of movement. You just shoot. Enemies come in waves like a shmup. Lots of slowdown hampers the game. The only challenge is maintaining your rapid fire as it depletes by holding it down for too long. It's as enjoyable as a real shooter can get I suppose. Actually it's basically Pokemon Snap where you kill the wildlife.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

7 short levels Branching paths don't have any noticeable effect Some fun elements like boosts and long jumps but it's just a corridor. The settings are typical Mario cutesy stuff.

Theme Score: 4

Theme Notes:

Mario rides Yoshi while blasting enemies with a bazooka. Why doesn't he do this in every game?

Art Style Score: 4

Art Style Notes:

Great mode 7 graphics. Some performance issues but the sprites, animation and scaling effects are excellent

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

No classic tunes but the music is passable. The sounds are quite good

Overall Score: 63
