Aim for the Ace!
Keep your eye on the ballGenre: sports - tennis
Publisher: Nippon Telenet
Year: 1993
System: SFC
Gameplay Score: 2
Gameplay Notes:
This game offers two views - a behind the shoulder perspective and a standard top-down view. I hate the first view because the scaling isn't good enough to accurately tell you how close the ball is to you. This causes a ton of swings and misses. Also, the camera tracks the ball so closely that it's nauseating. Maybe it would improve with practice, but I found this game to be extremely difficult to play. The top down view looks more playable but the controls are incredibly floaty. Your character slides for half a second after releasing the dpad and so sounds up all over the court. It may look better but actually controls worse than the behind the shoulder view.
Level Design Score: 2
Level Design Notes:
No way to select the number of sets, the court type, or anything. You can only pick the mode l: Exhibition, Scenario, or Multi and then the match starts. Scenario is a Japanese high school story mode with a bunch of dialogue between matches.
Theme Score: 1
Theme Notes:
This must be based on a tennis-themed anime or manga. Not my cup of tea.
Art Style Score: 3
Art Style Notes:
The visuals are impressive, but again sort of nauseating in motion.
Audio Score: 3
Audio Notes:
Nice fanfares and menu music. Also the voices that announce the score are fun, of a little bit French.
