Aretha II: Ariel no Fushigi na Tabi for SFC
Review #2011
Aretha II: Ariel no Fushigi na Tabi
By gamers, for gamers
Gameplay
The weird movement tech is still present, but everything else about the gameplay is great. You can even hold down on A instead of mashing to auto-fight. Clearly, this was made by someone who plays these games. I love that you get a 3-man party almost immediately and they come prepackaged with spells and abilities. This is pick up and play JRPG at its best.
Level Design
As in the first game, the next objective is never far away. Random battles only happen in areas and not on the overworld. Again, I appreciate the small world and bit-sized mission objectives.
Theme
You're the queen now, having gained your throne in the previous game. You pick up your former friends and set out on a new adventure. Good stuff
Art Style
Excellent artwork throughout. The only thing holding it back is the first person view and the weak looking magic spells. But man the sprite work is tremendous.
Audio
Cast improvement over the first game. Music isn't incredible but goes the job well. The weird echo is gone as well. Some of the sound effects are annoying but overall this is a good soundtrack.
