Bakuto Dochers

Let's crack some eggs

Genre: arcade - n/a

Publisher: Bulletproof

Year: 1994

System: SFC

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

Dang this is awful. It looks and plays somewhat like Super Bomberman but instead of placing bombs you fire a projectile a short distance away from you . After taking a hit, you or your opponent have several seconds worth of iframes and can continue firing so you can score a hit on someone. But if they're facing you or turn around, they're guaranteed to hit you back. So the best strategy is to avoid enemies rather than fight them. This only works sometimes because power-ups make you or your enemies nearly invincible. There are so many power-ups that the outcome of most matches is determined by who gets the invincibility power up and goes and kills everyone. It's just not fun at all.

Level Design Score: 1

Level Design Notes:

It's a straight up rip-off of Super Bomberman. The stages may as well be copied directly from one of those games. However, all of the power-ups scattered throughout the stages effectively destroy any semblance of design in the stages themselves.

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

Not really sure what sort of identity this game is going for. There are five or six selectable characters- each one is a animal of some sort. But they all have the exact same moves. It's not bad, just very forgettable.

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

The artwork ain't half bad. Character models are nice and the Pixel artwork is well drawn. There's lots of color and lots of variety. It has a very pastel color palette reminiscent of Kirby's Dreamland 3. Unfortunately there's a lot of effects applied to the characters as they pick up power-ups which make them flash change colors and what not. It's a bit off-putting.

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

The music's okay if a bit juvenile, but the sound effects are atrocious. Sounds like so many eggs being cracked.

Overall Score: 26
